Recycling Chaos in Somerset
RUBBISH collections in Somerset have recently been thrown into mega chaos as a planned new ‘recycling revolution’ got off to a not so ‘clean’ start.
The first phase of the new system of North Somerset Council starting on July 19 with half the residents of the district could set a new recycling containers for food, plastic, and cardboard boxes.
Half still on the old system with their garbage collected by the week.
However, “teething problems” have resulted in piles of garbage piled up outside some houses.
In the first week of the new system, the Council has received 730 reports of missed collections, more than double this amount at the same time last year.
In Clevedon, residents of 50 apartments in Weston Court in Chapel Hill had it put up with the smell of garbage after their last refuse was collected on July 13
The property still operating on the old system, which should see the trash and empty recycling bins weekly six-six.
Weston Court caretaker Steve Mockridge said: “Most residents are elderly. They are afraid to put out their garbage for smell.
“The tanks also have larvae in them and have the mouse too.
“Every time I talked with North Somerset Council said they were only someone would have that day.
“They did not come last week or last week.
“I can imagine some of our residents have a lot of trash in their apartment now.”
The Pill, people also reported a loss of collection and in Nailsea, age 84, Rita Booth, who was severe arthritis and can leave their waste outside their window for a collection special training, no different.
The Road Whitesfield resident contacted the council about this but she still is not garbage collected.
She said: “Within two weeks they had it only remains, but the collection of all the other garbage in the street
“It seems to me as if they do not know what they are doing.
“It was a foul-up with our expenses.”
Although the number of complaints received, North Somerset Council said the new service has been a huge success in terms of a large amount of recycling being put out for collection.
A spokesman said: “Our contractors have put on extra vehicles and crew, and collections are made on Saturday to help deal.
“There have been some teething problems with a change of this magnitude is the contractors have been used for new cars and the different routes, some may mean that residents have the a collection of them at different times of day.
“In the first week of the new services we’ve had 730 reports of missed collections. However, this is a less than 85.000 percent of total collections made throughout the district.”

From Monday, the new containers will be delivered to start the household sector in the second phase into the new system was ready for their new collections to begin in mid-September.
Change for people living in blocks of four or more apartments will be introduced in the fall.
